Jeremy Andrew Brooke (known to most as Gumby) was born on the 10 September 1981 in Durban, South Africa.
Although he travelled extensively throughout his life and often looked into the possibility of moving away, South Africa and Sodwana Bay specifically, was where he called home.
He was in one of his most favourite places in the world, Xhora in the Transkei, when he was shot and killed during a senseless robbery on the 21 February 2014. He was 32 years old.
It is of some comfort to those he left behind that he was there doing something that he cared extremely passionately about and was with people who meant a great deal to him.
Gumby was truly happy and enjoying his life…..
To celebrate his life and to share happy memories of Jeremy, a Facebook tribute page has been created.
Gumby was a treasure to all who loved him. While he is physically no longer with us, memories of him always will be but sadly, memories too can fade.
To ensure the memory of my inspiring, loud, beautiful, larger-than-life brother lives on, our mom and I wish to share memories, stories, thoughts, inspirations, silver – linings and interests in relation to our much – loved, constantly missed, Gumby.
While we have always known that Gumby has many friends who loved him and who he loved back, we never realised quite how much of an impression he had made around the world. Gumby truly did have a much larger, world-wide family and we would love to share not only our memories of him, but yours too if you would like to share them so please do get in touch!
[…] Gumby’s granddad Leslie was a nature lover too & most birds were welcome in our family garden (unlike the Magpies!). […]
